Starting our PGY-2 year, residents are scheduled for dedicated “Teach” shifts in the ED in which they work directly with rotating medical students. The Teach resident will hear presentations from the medical students and help them develop and implement a plan for each patient. Teach residents also give “teaching points” during sign-out, a 2-3 minute quick-hit style presentation for everyone present in the doc box. The Teach resident role gives our residents the opportunity to work closely with potential future residents, develop their teaching skills, bolster their own foundational medical knowledge, and explore their interests within medical education.

In addition to being scheduled for 1-2 Teach shifts in a Copa ED block, residents also have the opportunity to work additional teach shifts if they desire during a Medical Education elective block.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/12″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
